In April 2010 I made a life changing decision – brave, mad, however you see it – I resigned from my role as a Project Manager in the Construction Industry to embark on my self-employment adventure.
I have always loved colour, fabric and design. In secondary school I wanted to be as florist, my Dad (a retired secondary school teacher) encouraged me to continue with my education to University. With a love of change, design and numbers I decided to embark on a degree in Quantity Surveying. I have worked within a variety of industries including Newspaper circulation, for a House Builder, for a National Newspaper, Retail and the Nuclear industry.
Whilst pregnant with my daughter (Sienna now 9) I searched for brightly coloured, vibrant ready made soft furnishings to decorate her nursery. I couldn’t find any so my Mum and I embarked on making bunting for the perimeter of her room, a patchwork quilt, cot bumpers and cushions. I also designed and made a personalised bunting for SIenna’s bedroom wall. I received lots of positive feedback from friends and family so launched an eBay shop then a website (Eden Liberty) selling handmade fabric wares.
I returned to work as a Project Manager within the Retail Industry – working on construction contracts building shopping centres. When Sienna was starting school I wanted to improve my work/life balance so I would be able to do the school run. My job no longer made me happy so I decided to cut my cloth, live off an alternative income stream from my rental property portfolio and try my hand at self-employment within a creative role.
I had been running Eden Liberty in my spare time, using it as a tonic from my stressful job and found bunting to be the most popular product, So I decided to focus on bunting, offering decorative bunting runs, personalised bunting plus a bunting hire service for weddings and parties. After doing two free weddings and obtaining great quality photos and a company – Bunting Queen was born in April 2010.
